Branson 450 Digital Sonifier
Probe sonication for cell disruption and DNA shearing.
The Branson Digital Sonifier delivers high-intensity ultrasonic energy through a titanium probe. The resulting cavitation breaks open cells and tissues, shears DNA and chromatin, and disperses particles in suspension.
Sonication is especially useful for sample types that resist conventional lysis, and it gives us a controllable way to fragment DNA to a target size range. Amplitude, pulse timing and total energy are recorded for each run so results can be reproduced.
Applications
- Lysis of bacterial cells, yeast and tissue homogenates
- Mechanical shearing of genomic DNA
- Chromatin shearing for immunoprecipitation work
- Dispersion and homogenization of particles and emulsions
- Degassing and dissolution of difficult samples
Typical Sample Types
Cell suspensions, tissue homogenates, sediments and slurries, DNA solutions and particle suspensions.
