Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer

Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer

Microfluidic sizing, quantification and quality control of DNA, RNA and protein.

The Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer uses microfluidic chips to perform automated electrophoresis on very small sample volumes. In a single run it separates, sizes and quantifies nucleic acid or protein fragments and produces an electropherogram and gel-like image for each sample.

At GML the Bioanalyzer is the standard quality checkpoint in our molecular workflow. Extracted nucleic acids and finished sequencing libraries are checked before they move to the next step, so that degraded material or incorrect fragment sizes are caught early rather than after an expensive sequencing run.

Applications

  • RNA integrity assessment (RIN) prior to gene expression or RNA-seq work
  • Fragment size distribution of sequencing libraries (Illumina and Nanopore)
  • Sizing and quantification of PCR products and restriction digests
  • Detection of genomic DNA contamination or degradation
  • Protein sizing and purity checks

Typical Sample Types

Purified DNA, total RNA, mRNA, sequencing libraries, PCR products and protein extracts. Typically 1 µL of sample is required per analysis.
