Thermo Scientific NanoDrop 2000 Spectrophotometer
Microvolume UV-Vis measurement of nucleic acid and protein concentration and purity.
The NanoDrop 2000 measures absorbance on a sample of just 0.5–2 µL held between two optical surfaces by surface tension. No cuvette or dilution is required for most samples.
In addition to concentration, the absorbance ratios at 260/280 nm and 260/230 nm indicate whether a nucleic acid sample contains protein, phenol, salts or other carryover that could interfere with downstream work.
Applications
- Nucleic acid concentration and purity (A260/280, A260/230)
- Protein concentration at A280
- Labeling efficiency of dye-conjugated samples
- Quick checks of extraction performance
Typical Sample Types
DNA, RNA, protein and other solutions; 0.5–2 µL per measurement.
